Voice for Change Award

Karla Ward and Brad Youngman present the New Beginnings Voice for Change Award to Cheryl Purdy

The First Annual New Beginnings Charity Golf Scramble at Ben Hawes Golf Course on Friday, May 21st was a huge success. Thank you to all of the sponsors and players who came out to support our mission.

Presenting our Voice for Change award to the incredible Cheryl Purdy was a highlight of the event. Cheryl is a Special Deputy with the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. On an unpaid, volunteer basis, she does digital forensics for the DCSO and other area law enforcement agencies. The incredible work she does means so much to our agency, law enforcement, and survivors everywhere.

The Commonwealth Attorney’s Office had these kind words to say about Cheryl:

Cheryl is a vitally important asset to the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, especially in the prosecution of child sexual exploitation cases. Without her vast knowledge of digital forensics, many cases of child pornography would go unprosecuted due to a lack of evidence. Cheryl has also been vital in the prosecution of homicide cases, drug cases, and robbery cases. In today’s world, digital forensics is an important tool in the prosecution of virtually every criminal case. Without Cheryl’s talent, expertise, and availability, we would have to wait months or even years to prosecute a case if we had to out-source searches of digital forensic evidence to another agency due to the high demand of such evidence and the back-log other agencies experience. Not very many individuals can do the job that Cheryl can do. Every day she has to see the worst of the worst when it comes to the sexual exploitation of children and images of child pornography. The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney certainly owes Cheryl a heartfelt and well-deserved THANK YOU for her dedicated commitment and passionate fight against child sexual abuse and exploitation!
